Patient safety and protection
A
recent survey of dental patients in the San Jose area and nation
wide showed that patient protection was #1 on their list of concerns
about dental care. Our office has responded by following the
most up-to-date methods of sterilization.
To protect our patients and ourselves, we wear
masks, gloves, glasses and uniforms. We have also adopted "universal
(or standard) precautions" as recommended by the American Dental
Association and the Centers for Disease Control. These involve
cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces in the treatment rooms after
each patient. All instruments are sterilized in a steam autoclave.
This state-of-the-art sterilization unit heats the instruments to
high temperatures under high pressure to kill any bacteria. Whenever
possible, disposable single use items are used for your protection.
Our equipment is tested every week to assure its effectiveness for
your safety.
The chance of contracting an infection in the dental chair is extremely
remote, but the chance of losing one's teeth because of lack of proper
dental care is extremely likely.
